My son has problems in schools with concentrating and has had some disciplinary problem recently.

Really, I just think he is bored. The school counselor suggested we see a doctor and went on to say that the doctor could prescribe a medication for him. the kid is in 3rd grade, mind you. I am totally opposed to this and would like to try some dietary changes first. The sodas and ice creams they freely offer at school are probably not helping his situation, so i would like to start controlling what he eats. In addition, i would like to add a dietary supplement or herbs to his diet to help him focus and lower stress.

Has anyone tried anything that has worked or is working for your child?

Also, an dietary changes you could suggest would be much appreciated.

thank you in advance for your time.

I had a friend whose child was acting up in school. She changed to an all organic diet to control the dyes and chemicals they put in conventional foods. Also, she would make her son have chamomile tea to calm himself in the evening. And Chamomile helps with focusing also. You maight see if they have a pill form of chamomile. I have heard that Ginkgo biloba helps too. I read that these can help maintain brain-stimulation levels while supporting blood circulation and neurotransmitters in the brain. So, I hope this helps.

We feed our kid a health shake every morning. Strawberries, blueberries, yogurt, soy milk and a little bit of honey for flavor. High in lots of vitamins and proteins to help him stay focused during the day.

I'd recommend food high in B vitamins. These are essential to optimum mental performance.

A good herb for calming is chamomille. Give that a look-see. It's safe for kids and works for adults too. We usually do an evening tea for the whole family.
