My husband and I would like to have a child.
My doctor took me off medication. My doctor thinks it's best that
I try not doing any meds while I'm trying to get pregnant and
while carrying the baby.
I have mild chronic depression with major depressive
episodes. I'm having a bad night and starting to believe
that I can't do this any longer. We have been trying to
conceive for five months now and I've had several bouts
of moderate depression and I don't think I can do this for
another nine months plus the time it takes to conceive.
Can other people give me their stories on pregnancy and
being treated for depression?

I had depression before I ever had children. I have had to take antidepressants through all three pregnancies, and I didn't have any problems with it. My first pregnancy I took amitripyline, and the other two I took zoloft. My youngest is 7 months old. My problem has been with postpartum depression happening, it came after my first and third boys. I think it has a lot to do with how the birth goes; they were both very stressful while the second wasn't.
I also got pregnant just fine as I was on antidepressants the whole time (for 12 years now.) Anyways, any other questions just ask.

I started taking zoloft after my first son was born for post partum depression and panic attacks and I was on it while I concieved my second son and continued to take it through out my whole pregnancy. My son is 1 now and he is perfect. You don't need to go through what you are going through find a new doctor if you have to but the fact that your feeling depressed puts stress on your body and will make it diffacult to concieve. Good luck

I have 3 boys, 5yr, 3yr, and 7mos. At different points durring each pregnancy I started taking zoloft. My Dr. always told me if I wasn't healthy I would have a much harder time staying healthy for my babies. My 5year old son is ADHD which is no surprise to me since I was, and am Bi-Polar. Otherwise he is a pretty healthy boy. My other two are completely healthy other than being stubborn. Talk to your Dr. and if you need to get a second oppinion. He may not recomend medication, but be sure to tell him all of your feelings and symptoms. Reserch medications, side effects, and things like that on your own so that you can go to him with an informed discision. God bless you, and your coming family.

I was on zoloft before having my son and stopped when I found out I was pregnant. i didn't want to risk anything happening to him because of me being on medication. I started again after he was born up until I found out I was pregnant with my second when I stopped again. Now that my daughter is 4 weeks old, I'm looking to start on it again as I'm having bad anxiety and depression again, but I'm trying to see if I can find an alernative remedy as I gained a lot of weight while on my medication.
