Seriously, I took one of my friend's Adderalls, only half, and I was wide awake for a day and a half. That stuff is crazy. Is it harmful to take it in small doses like that if you haven't been diagnosed with something? Just wondering. I can see how somebody could really get hooked on it.

Adderall is amphetamines, closely related to Methamphetamine (Street speed/desoxyn). It speeds up your metabolic functions and increases brain chemicals... which logically is bad for you. Just because its a legal prescription drug doesnt make it safe. Heroin used to be prescribed to people for gods sake. Adderall is illegal in canada for causing circulatory collapse in young children. stay away from it.

Cody,

I am not sure why you took the Adderal but I take 2 at a time and twice a day at that. I feel nothing when I take them and have never felt anything when I have taken then.

Everyone is different when it comes to drugs. I was also on another drug that I could not handle one bit at all. Even at 15mgs it was driving me crazy. Took me a good year and half before I had any kind of control of my body.

So, please becareful what you do. I am glad that you took only 1/2 that pill and I bet you are glad too!.

Talk later!

I guess for a person that don't need Adderall, it can affect you in a different way than for someone who actually needs it. My granddaughter has been on Adderall since she was 6 years old, and that is the only meds that can slow her down so that she can actually think. She has been switched to other meds several times, but they didn't work for her and she would have to be put right back on Adderall. She is 14 now, and has been off Adderall for 5 months, and is having all kinds of problems, because the other meds don't work. She is in a residential treatment center at this time, and when we visit her, she is bouncing off the walls. I have tried to leave word to just try her back on Adderall and see if it calms her back down. Unless you have dealt with a true ADHD child, you really don't understand about the Adderall.

Hi everybody! biggrin.gif
It appears Adderall is a subject that different people feel quite differently about.

For some, Adderall is a godsend, a chance to finally concentrate rather than feeling like their brain is a channel-surfing TV. Other individuals use Adderall recreationally or as a study aid, taking advantage of its qualities as an amphetamine. Still others feel that Adderall is a dangerous drug that should be taken off the market completely and definitely not prescribed to children.

That final sentiment is largely due to Canada's suspension of Adderall XR sales in 2005, after data linked the drug to the deaths of 12 American children. However, because most of these cases had pre-existing cardiac conditions, U.S. sales continue. If you have any kind of heart condition, Adderall is probably not a good idea for you--not even to stay up and cram for tomorrow's biology exam.

Which brings me to my second group. Outside of doctor supervision, Adderall is used for everything from a stay-awake stimulant to a weight loss aid. It is often taken in combination with other drugs, and the chances of developing a dependency on the drug are high. For any amphetamine, there is a likelihood of psychological dependence, and, after prolonged use, the cessation of use can lead to depressive lows and extreme physical fatigue. sad.gif

For those individuals who are prescribed Adderall or Adderall XR and take it under a doctor's supervision, side effects can still occur, but limited availability and accountability to a health care professional help to keep abuse and addiction to a minimum. Adderall has also been successfully used in treating severe cases of depression when other substances have proved ineffective.

I hope this information is helpful.

Shut up, everyone.

People who get paranoid on adderall and worry about the drug that they are taking should STOP LOOK AND LISTEN to themselves and what they are saying.
Many people say they have a love hate relationship with this medication.
Ok, have you looked deeply into what the hell you are saying about it?
It does not take much intelligence to realize that YOU are the culprit, not the adderall.
A medication can not control you’re love or hate for anything, not even for the medication.
I think, or I know, that all of this medication and withdrawal hoopla is more or less a media induced and simple minded way of blaming medications for the bad things people feel sometimes.
No, you have to be not only mature enough to understand the exact mechanics of the medications, you have to be smart about what you are saying about it.
I hear stuff like “the medication is causing me to hate everything”
Or stuff like “this medication is making me go crazy”
Or stuff like “no one likes me when I take this medication”
Ok, have you tried not taking it?
What makes you think it’s the medication making you “hate” things?
Exactly. Nothing can make you hate anything,
It’s basically all psychological. People are just using the medication as a way of blaming something else for how they feel.
Side effects are listed on every medication pamphlet. The side effects are usually general complaints from the guinea pigs who first tried the medication. If you get a side effect that is not listed on the drug pamphlet, you either need to re-check what you are saying or tell this to your doctor. I’m pretty sure He knows more than you do, although you feel like you know way more than he does because you’re the one taking the medication and not him- which by the way, is a very childish way of thinking.
Yes, it is your body, but please, do not blame your doctor for your intake of something.

First of all, you went to him- he did not approach you and he certainly did not have any intentions of making you feel like shit.
Patients are looked at as ignorant sometimes, because the majority these days, are proving themselves to be simple minded or they choose to be ignorant and blame things rather than actually taking any time to know details.
But a doctor cannot blame a patient for anything, because a patient can very well sue a doctor if he can find some sort of evidence that he was taking a medication from that particular doctor and such and such illness happened while he was taking the medication prescribed by this doctor.
Doctor’s are internally terrified of getting sued, especially by “dumb” patients, because they are usually the ones who sue.

There is a point to much of this. People are ignorant. Medications are not. Doctor’s generally, are not ignorant either.

Before you go blaming a medication for silly little complaints, why don’t you re-evaluate why you are taking the drug, who put it in your mouth, and why are you complaining about it?
You wouldn’t believe what people say about adderall.
It’s basically a stimulant. And no you cannot compare it to cocaine or caffeine or anything.
Adderall is in the amphetamine family, which is a composition of salts, which in combination make up a stimulant. Amphetamines are not all the same, but since they have the same type of name, they are somehow related, but take away the name behind adderall, you have “amphetamine salts”, people see that word and they go crazy- they start thinking “oh that is like methamphetamine”. Dear god, not it’s not!
It’s unfortunate that adderall has such a bad rep for having potential addictive qualities.
The action of the drug is not addictive.
The amphetamine aspect of it is and/or can be IF you snort it regularly, take it multiple times a day, crush it up and eat it or inject it.
What about the potential of heart failure?
Yes, it is extremely unfortunate that people are so scared of adderall because of the stories in Canada and maybe even a few from the US.
That is probably the scariest thing about any stimulant.
Because we cannot see our hearts, if we feel one tiny little uncomfortable sensation in our chests, we tend to freak out and think our heart is failing- those who do and don’t take medications will both agree a pain in the chest is a scary thing and most usually say their heart is going to explode.
Your heart does not explode. It can get weak and eventually cause problems within your body.
That is why YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF IF YOU ARE SCARED OF POTENTIAL HEART PROBLEMS. Get check ups and tell the doctor why you want this check up, he will be fine with it.
It’s your body by the way, not his.

I completely agree with this person, everyone seems to blame the drug for its effects when they should be blaming themselves. Really I took adderall as a study aide and it has helped me on final exams, etc. But I don't take it it when I don't have exams. It really isn't that hard. If you take adderall thinking that you are going to get hooked on it, then you most likely will get hooked on it. Its not that hard. I drink beer and liquor all the time but only to help me get loose and social. I am not hooked on those either. I have done weed in the past to try it out. I hated it as it does nothing for me other than make my eyes wide and my brain chill. I don't care for that. All of the these so called vices are not really vices at all but rather they have been given such a overall negative conotation that people think that this is what is bound to happen. If you take these things without any negative expectations but rather that they are like any other pill that you can control, then you will be much better off.

It seems nowadays that everyones no one has the ability to think for themselves but rather just follow the general crowd and say" Oh yah man I tried coke, weed, adderall, etc, and its crazy man, you get hooked on it" NO, its not addictive just like alcohol is not addictive. When I first tired beer, it tasted like piss, and to me it still does because I never forced myself to believe that it was good becuase everyone else said it was good. Hard Liquor also tastes like crap. But now I do drink hard liquor when I go out or drink with friends only because it helps me loosens up and fit in society better. As long as people go into situations with a idea that this drug WILL mess you up, then you are fighting against your own thinking. Really none of these drugs are addictive, it' our own thinking that makes it so.

On a side note, people react to things differently then others, so maybe you might have gotten an addiction to this or another drug. For me the only thing that I seem to not be able to control is masturbation at times. And thats it. I can control all these other drugs. (Im a guy by the way.)
