My doctor prescribed 10 mg of Lexapro in addition to 150 mg of Wellbutrin. Anyone taken both of them at once? Side effects? Efficacy?
I just started taking Lexapro (3-days) and the only symptom I have so far is a headache. I feel more calm-- was suffering from generalized anxiety, but don't want to be overmedicating myself.

I have heard of both of these drugs being combined with effective results, though never personally taken this combination.
The Lexapro (SSRI) is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, so it is designed to work on chemical imbalances in the part of the brain that control serotonin, while Wellbutrin (antidepressant) is a reuptake inhibitor of norepinephrine and dopamine.
This combintation can be effective if you do, in fact, have an imbalance in any of these 3 neurotransmitters. What it basically boils down to is trial and error. Unfortunately, there is not a precise method for doctors to test for "chemical imbalances" so this is why you often hear about people taking one drug, then another, then another, until they finally get one that works. Each one works slightly differently on different parts of the brain. Because chemical imbalance is pretty complex, trial and error is the only method that currently works.
One thing to mention is that if you are taking both of these drugs, they should have been prescribed by the same doctor. If you had a different doctor prescribe the Lexapro, you should contact the original doctor for a second opinion.

I've taken this combo for 3 years. It works great but I've gained 15 lbs that just won't come off so at this point I'm thinking about natural alternatives

Can I stop taking wellbutrin and lexapro overnight or do I have to wean myself off of them. I'm just tired of taking something.

I was only taking Lexapro which I thought was great, I weaned off on for a few days and then stopped completely but I had no effects at all. I decided that prescription medication was not for me. It does take all the anxiety and depression away, but the drowsiness and the calmness is really not who I am. No one is naturally that calm. Have you thought about natural therapies.

Teri you should check with your doctor. There are some side effects to the fetus when taking SSRI's during pregnancy and you should be monitored carefully. However, you may not have to stop taking them. It will be something you and your doctor decide.
