Erin,
I am a 56 year old woman who has been on prozac for over 15 years. Before that, I tried eveyrthing.
I have suffered from depression my entire life. I can remember the earliest time at the age of 7, being depressed. I have also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and RSD (a pain disorder.)
If it had not been for prozac, I would have committed suicide by now. Perhaps it WAS your personal brain chemistry that rejected the prozac; but, for millions of people....for many years...Prozac has saved their lives. FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN SUFFERING FROM LONGTERM DEPRESSION, I WOULD RECOMMEND PROZAC. (I'm not shouting....Just want everyone to see this).
I had taken prozac for about six weeks or so before I KNEW that it was helping me. It was not a sudden change, as in a miracle. I just realized one day that I was no longer depressed!!!
It does come with it's side effects. Mine is loss of sex drive.; but, I would prefer to be this way than thinking about suicide constantly.
I also have also had anxiety all of my life. I have been taking xanax in regimented minimum dosages for over 20 years....but, I must say that I do not have an addictive tendency. For people who do, I would recommend them taking xanax short term only. I have amazing self control.....Most people don't.
Other things that help me are (1) moderate exercise on a regular basis. (2) meditation and stretching OR yoga. (3) maintaining a god diet and staying at a good weight. (4) staying calm and pacing myself with everything that I do.
If people who depress me come into my life, I try to avoid them. I try to choose happy people with positive attitudes.....Who care for each other......Not use each other.
I have "retrained" my mind to think positive thoughts. If I begin thinking anything negative, I stop myself or ask myself this question: What's the worst thing that can happen, OR, what is the bottom line, are you putting your priorities in the right order?
You would be surprised at how many different kinds of lives that I have had in this one earthly life! Things and circumstances change! Life changes. I have done some really GREAT things! I have LIVED life! And, I have hurt no one.
The best thing for anyone to do is be flexible and wear life like an old shoe. Don't fret over little unimportant things. Do things for people....It will make you feel good! Don't let other people's differences bother you....Accept them as they are, as long as they don't HURT you. Having a difference of opinion does not make a person unsuitable as a mate or friend. It helps BOTH peopel to listen to each other and strike a balance. Don't ever feel as IF YOU OWN SOMEONE.....You don't.....EVEN IS YOU'RE MARRIED.
Now, CAN SOMEONE RECOMMEND ANYTHING FOR JAW PAIN? I do not want to take anything addictive. I've had jaw pain for nine years.....3 root canals, 2 tooth extractions. Dentist says it's not TMJ.
Oh....And, by the way....Take on your problems one at a time and resolve them.
Thanks!!!
Kat
