Effexor is a dangerous drug!

It made me feel worthless and alone! I could not get thoughts of killing myself out of my mind after taking it! NO ONE told me to wean off of the drug and it almost killed me!

BEWARE OF EFFEXOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am now on Lexapro which has been great for me

Everyone please educate yourself before taking mind altering drugs!!!

I agree completely that individuals should educate themselves before taking a prescribed medication. I'm also sorry to hear that you had such a negative experience while on Effexor.

These days, Venlafaxine hydrochloride (marketed as Effexor) is mainly prescribed to individuals who have not responded to SSRIs (such as Prozac or Lexapro) and under a doctor's close supervision. This is because of the very side effects you spoke of. Most doctors are aware of these side effects. Others may still be in the dark.

For those reading this, if you are on Effexor and experiencing any thoughts of suicide, contact your doctor immediately. If your doctor prescribes Effexor as a first run treatment for depression or anxiety, inquite about possible side effects.
