I know there isn't a magic bullet for depression in the form of a pill but I have been looking around on the web a little and found several herbs and supplements for depression.

I am not sure which will work best.

I know St. John's Wort is pretty popular and I think i will try the Perika from Nature's Way, but is there anything else that might help? I am looking for ingredients i can buy in bulk, or even a supplement or two. If anyone has taken something and felt better, please let me know, i am willing to try just about anything.
Thank you.

how long have you been depressed andi? i've taken the perika brand of st johns wort along with 5-HTP for about 2 months and haven't found it to be helpful at all. my doctor told me that i needed something stronger and recommended the drug prozac which i've been considering taking.

I can't take St John's Wort because I'm very allergic to it so I take Rhodiola Rosea instead (I've also heard it called Arctic Root). I take it everyday with SAM-e and have been doing so for about 6 months. It has really helped a lot with my depression.

If you do not already do so, some form of everyday exercise can change your brain chemistry significantly. It's great to get in some physical activity first thing in the morning. This can be as simple as some basic stretching and jogging in place. rolleyes.gif

Here are some pills that are designed for mood.

Please note that if you are looking for a long-term treatment for depression or a depressive disorder, then no supplement is going to work. These should only be used to provide support for the short-term while also seeking long-term treatment options like CBT or another form of therapy.

Most of these are herbal supplements and may contain other nutrients and vitamins. One thing to look for from the vitamin side is B-complex vitamins, all of which can help improve mood and neurological functions.

Amoryn
Clarocet ERT
Perika (High hyperforin concentration)

There was another supplement at one time called Welatonin, but it seems that they either went out of business or were shut down by the FDA for making unsubstantiated treatment claims (www.welatonin.com).
