My mother has a terrible time sleeping. She has tried OTC sleeping pills and discovered the main ingredient in these pills affect her the wrong way. She goes off to sleep quickly, but wakes and stays awake. This main ingredient does not relax her.

Are there any OTC or prescribed pills that do not have this ingredient. And I apologize for not knowing what the main ingredient is.

I'm going to have her talk to her doctor -but I thought I had heard about a sleep aid that was not made with the ingredients all the other have.

Thank you.

Most OTC sleeping pills have the same indredient, I believe it is called Diphenhydramine.

I'd first suggest looking for a sleep aid that does not have this ingredient in it, and if that doesn't work, you have a couple of options:

1) Prescription Sleep Aid

2) Alternative Sleep Meds like Melatonin or combination therapies.
