Hello,

I'm an anxious person and I've been taking valerian root supplements to help me sleep for about six months. I've also been doing yoga. My sleep is ok, but I"m worried about the side effects of the valerian root. I read on wikipedia that it can dull the mental faculties or cause or mild depression... is this true??

thanks!

Leah

I've been taking Valerian for 3 1/2 weeks to help with insomnia. I've been sleeping well, and at first felt wonderful when I woke up. For the last couple of weeks, though, I've been feeling more & more depressed. Only today did I put that together with the Valerian. I'm also having a hard time getting going in the morning. No more Valerian for a while, and if I use it in the future, it'll only be for a few nights to break the insomnia cycle.

I absolutely CANNOT TAKE valerian of ANY kind so please be aware, just like with drugs, NOT ALL NATURAL REMEDIES work the same on everyone! Just listen to your own body when it is trying to tell you something! Many times there are other things listed in the ingredients and those "other" things can cause a reaction of a variety of sorts! I don't discount natural remedies BUT I LISTEN TO MY BODY.

Leah,
Here is what I have found:

I am surprised you have been on it that long. When I used it, it quit working after 2 weeks; I needed more and more to get the effect.
Sometimes, if I use deep slow breathing and focus on my abdomen when trying to sleep, that helps.
Blessings, peace and prosperity be yours, Leah, now and forevermore.

I have given supplements to my dog and my roommate has done the same. We simply divide the weight of the pet into the weight of an adult.
If I weigh 150 & my dog is 75, I cut the dosage in half.
