Hi,
Can someone tell me if there are any vitamins that my son can take to help with symptoms of ADHD?
Thank you
Hello and thank you for posting in our forums.
While vitamins, herbs and dietary supplements may not be approved "treatments" for ADD / ADHD, many adults and kids have found some positive benefits from biologically-based
CAM therapies.
Here is a list of a few vitamins and herbs that you can add to your son's diet that may help:
Vitamin B Complex - Excellent for supporting neurotransmitter function and promoting a positive mood. There is an excellent overview of the different B vitamins at one of our advertiser's pages.

Magnesium - This trace element has been shown in a variety of clinical studies to help improve focus and clarity, while also reducing stress levels.
Rhodiola Rosea - This arctic plant has been studied for the last two decades and found to be very effective in helping to reduce stress and anxiety and improve focus and concentration. Studies performed in Russia suggest that Rhodiola positively effects the neurotransmitters serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine and Acetylcholine.
Panax Ginseng - You'll often find Panax, and other ginsengs, in energy drinks because it helps to improve focus and mental performance. This particular herb has also been shown in clinical studies to boost memory. Ginseng is generally taken by adults, but can be taken by teenagers and children in smaller amounts.
Chamomile - Chamomille is traditionally served as a tea and can be given to children as young as one year old. It is a very mild "sedative" that helps to calm and relax the central nervous system. Chamomile is like a kid version of
Valerian Root in this respect.
