My daughter has become very anxious about many things especially about dying. She repeats herself and tells me that her brain is telling her to repeat things. It is so disheartning to see her like this.
Things are worse at night. This all started with excessive hand washing 6 months ago and now has turned into many other things.
Does anyone have suggestions on what to do. i have become quite frustrated with the situation.
Thank you!

I was like that...I turned out to be psychic...weird things come out of children but she'll be ok

It sounds to me like she may be showing obsessive compulsive behavior. I advise taking her to see a child psychiatrist for an evaluation. Does she show any other odd traits, like being withdrawn or counting things often?

Kelly, how old is your daughter? When she repeats herself, does she do it even though she knows that what she's just said is being heard and she's, therefore, felt validated? Something on her mind has triggered all of this, and six months really is a long time to let obsessive hand washing continue. Like you've said, it's led onto a lot other things. When my daughter was younger, she went through a phase of checking and rechecking stove burners and door locks. After about a month, I tricked her into thinking we were just going for a drive, and took her to our family doctor. Once there, she opened up to him about how she felt and was placed on 10mg. prozac, which gave her back her carefree life in just a few short weeks. I hope you don't show any frustration to your child, and, please, take her to your family doctor. No matter what her age, she shouldn't have to live with anxiety when there is help for it.

Does your daughter repeat herself regardless of who the conversation is with, or does she only do it with you? Are you giving your daughter your undivided attention when the two of you are conversing? Does she repeat herself mainly when discussing the subject of death? It sounds to me like she may be very worried about something, perhaps death and the afterlife, and is having a lot of difficulty getting things settled in her mind. How old is your daughter? You may need to convince her that God loves her and is watching over her. Insecurity can be hard to deal with.

Kelly,

I agree with the other post. It definetly sounds like OCD. OCD can be very overwhelming. I have OCD and not excessive but enough to be treated. I have to double check the stoves, curling iron and make sure doors are locked. With medicine, I don't even think about these things and live a decent life. For your daughter to tell you "this is what my head tells me" is a great thing...kind of a cry for help. I never told my parents because I was embarrassed! However, that's all that I would think about at school...did I do this/did I do that. She definetly needs to be evaluated. It sounds like her emotions/thoughts are pretty severe. I wouldn't wait around.

I hope things get better for you.

Oh my, that poor morgellons disease patient trying to impersonate me has struck again.

Pitiful, just pitiful.

OMG, if you look on the cache version of this page that poor smileykins impersonater showed up here with his nonsense. It's really not funny, but it almost could be if he wasn't further confusing his fellow patients so badly.
